Felon arrested selling pot near a school, also possessed loaded firearm

The St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit (DTU), comprised of Officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Belleville Police, Cahokia Police and Fairview Heights Police, conducted an undercover operation into allegations of cannabis being sold from 961 Belle Valley Drive, Apartment G, Belleville. The apartment complex is within 1,000 feet of an Elementary School. During the course of the investigation a search warrant was obtained through the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office and signed by a St. Clair County Judge.

On 12-28-07 at about 1200 hours the Belleville Police Tactical Response Team executed the search warrant at 961 Belle Valley Drive, Apartment G, Belleville. Members of the DTU and Belleville Patrol Division provided perimeter security during the search warrant execution. A safe entry was made into the apartment and three subjects, two males and one female, were taken into custody and transported to the St. Clair County Jail. DTU conducted a search of the residence and the following items were located: Black Taurus 9 MM semi-automatic pistol (loaded), live bullets, unspecified amount of currency, “pot” pipes, cannabis grow lab containing 5 plants, dried cannabis and seeds, over 130 pills (controlled), and a weighing scale.

Subsequent to the investigation conducted by the Belleville Officer assigned to the DTU the following subject was charged on 12-29-07:

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged him with UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS BY A FELON and UNLAWFUL POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER CANNABIS WITH 1,000 FEET OF A SCHOOL (BelleValley School). He is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $100,000.00 bail.

The female and second male was not charged with crimes in relation to the search warrant however Doralo McGee’s wife:

is being held in the St. Clair County Jail for a warrant out of Clinton County for RESISTING ARREST. Her bond is $3,000.00.

Capt. Johnson said, “This investigation was only successful due to the multi-jurisdictional approach taken by the Belleville Police Department and the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit. Working together we arrested a convicted felon who possessed a loaded firearm and sold cannabis dangerously close to a school where our children go to learn everyday.”

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Victim identified in December 23 homicide

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide which occurred on 12-23-07 at about 1830 hours. A male victim:

was stabbed to death in an apartment at 217 Freedom Drive Apartment F near unincorporated Belleville. The victim was transported via ambulance to Belleville Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased at the hospital with multiple stab wounds to the chest. One stab wound punctured his heart.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department worked throughout the night interviewing witnesses and neighbors. Illinois State Police Crime Scene processed the scene. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was located at the scene. Late last night Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department, led by Sgt. Dan Stockett, arrested the suspect (pictured below) at his residence in E. St. Louis. The suspect was taken to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and questioned.

Subsequent to the criminal investigation the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office (ASA Joe Christ) charged the suspect with one count of FIRST DEGREE MURDER. The bond assigned by a judge was $1,500,000.00. The suspect is currently in custody at the St. Clair County Jail.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Homicide 12/23/2007

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide which occurred on 12-23-07 at about 1830 hours. A male subject was stabbed to death in an apartment at 217 Freedom Drive near unincorporated Belleville. The victim was transported via ambulance to Belleville Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased at the hospital with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department are working the homicide investigation and have taken a person of interest into custody for questioning in E. St. Louis. Investigators will continue working throughout the night on the homicide investigation.

Hate Crimes

On December 13^th, 2007 St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern requested the Sheriff’s Department investigate a possible hate crime in the 2200 block of Deer Springs Trail in unincorporated Shiloh. Chairman Kern received a flyer which was left on the front lawn (near a mailbox) of a residence. Chairman Kern received the information from a local Pastor. The flyer is called “The Klansmen’s Voice.” The inside depicts KKK members with burning crosses and articles about “Proud to be White” and “Racist Klansmen? Or Racist America.” The flyer does not mention any local connections.

The United States Postal Service Inspectors Office was initially contacted but the incident does not fall under their jurisdiction since the flyer was not left in the mail box. The Sheriff’s Department has also enlisted the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Civil Crimes Section. Several residents in Shiloh also received the flyers in their yard. The Sheriff’s Department has been in communication with the Shiloh Police.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department have knocked on doors in the neighborhood to determine if anyone has information related to the flyers. Investigators also checked local convenience stores for anything suspicious.
