St. Clair County Sheriff's investigators continue to questions witnesses about a Thursday afternoon shooting that led to a police perimeter set up around a Caseyville home.
The suspect in the shooting, whose name has not been released pending charges, remains in custody in the St. Clair County Jail.
The shooting began around 3 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Amelia and Judith drives in the Parkfield Terrace subdivision in unincorporated Cahokia when the suspect walked up to the car the victim was in at a stop sign and shot him in the face, according to St. Clair County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Capt. Steve Johnson.
According to witnesses, the victim and the suspect were involved in a disagreement shortly before the shooting.
After he was shot in the face with a revolver the victim floored his car to get away from the gunman. The gunman continued shooting at the fleeing car in the direction of a school bus that had just arrived and was unloading children about half a block away.
The shooting victim managed to drive about a block before he crashed his car into a ditch. A passenger in the car jumped out and took over driving the car. He took the victim to Touchette Regional Medical Center in Centreville where he is being treated for his wound.
Investigators were able to identify the shooter after interviews with the victim and witnesses and a description of the suspect's vehicle was put out over the Illinois State Police Radio Network.
Police located the suspect's vehicle at a residence near Caseyville around 5:30 p.m.
The suspect refused to come out of the house and police from several law enforcement agencies, including Fairview Heights, Caseyville, the St. Clair County Sheriff and the Illinois State Police set up a perimeter around the home.
The suspect came out of the home after about half an hour without incident and was taken into police custody.
Police continue to investigate the shooting and interview witnesses and the case has not yet been presented to the St. Clair County state's attorney for charges.
Around 1:30 a.m. Friday a second man was shot while he was standing in the front yard of 157 Amelia. The man was shot very close to where the first victim was shot in the face at the intersection of Amelia and Judith. Several shots were fired and the victim received a grazing bullet wound to his back, according to police.
There are no suspects in the second shooting, said Johnson, but police are investigating a possible connection with the Thursday afternoon shooting.
