Stabbing Subject Charged

The below subject was charged today with AGGRAVATED BATTERY by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office:

A St. Clair County Judge issued a $500,000 bond. The suspect is still in custody in the St. Clair County Jail. The victim is in stable condition but has a collapsed lung due to being stabbed twice in the chest, once with a knife and once with a key. A second subject arrested was released without charges.

“Bar fights are always difficult to sort out. This fight ended inside the bar and the victim left. The suspect followed the victim out into the parking lot and then stabbed him twice. We thank the State’s Attorney’s Office for closely scrutinizing this case and sending a message that this will not be tolerated,” said Capt. Steve Johnson.

St. Clair County, Illinois (KMOV.com) – A suspect is in custody following a shooting just outside of Belleville earlier in the week.

Samad Williams, 24, of the 200 block of East Carlyle Street is charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

According to police, the 19-year-old victim was shot twice on March 22, around 6:30 p.m. at the 100 block of Lawndale Drive near unincorporated Belleville. The teen was treated and released from a St. Louis area hospital.

A short time after the attack, Williams was arrested by St. Clair County Sheriff's deputies after being spotted walking along Carlyle Avenue. The gun that is believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from a trash can at nearby car wash.

Aggravated Battery with Firearm

On December 15^th, 2009 at 11:50 PM the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a 38 year old subject who said he just shot someone who was trying to get into his house in the 8100 block of Collinsville Road, unincorporated Collinsville. Deputies responded and upon their arrival spoke with a Madison County Deputy who stated a 17 year old victim had been transported to the hospital who had been shot, either in the chest or back. The victim was found on Collinsville Road just west of Black Lane.

Investigators from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police Crime Scene responded to the scene. The person who shot the gun, a friend who lived at the residence, the person who was shot and his girlfriend were all interviewed during the investigation. It was determined the person was actually shot when he was about 50 to 75 yards away from the residence. He was in the process of “tagging” (spray painting) the garage with gang graffiti. He is a Latin King Gang member who lives in St. Louis, MO but frequents the State Park area. It was determined he bought three cans of spray paint in Collinsville earlier in the evening.

The person who shot the gun was taken into custody due to the difference in accounts as to what happened. The .38 caliber revolver was also recovered. The person’s FOID card was expired.

Investigators presented the case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office and the case was taken under advisement pending further investigation. The person who was shot is in stable condition at a St. Louis Area hospital.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Police are searching for a St. Clair County Jail detainee who posed as another inmate, and was released by mistake.

"We released the wrong guy," Jail Superintendent Maj. Phillip McLaurin said. "This was a mistake made by an individual officer and we did not classify it as an escape."

McLaurin said the jail mistakenly released 60-year-old Elijah Muhammad, who was last seen wearing a dark blue V-neck short-sleeved jersey with the words "Curt Smith" on the front. Muhammad is a black man with a medium build, about 6-feet-tall and 220 pounds.
